Oct 4, 2017 | News

A can developed by Brasilata won gold at the 2017 ABRE Brazilian Packaging Awards, the most hotly contested in recent years.

Brasilata, leader in the national production of metallic packaging, was the Gold winner at the 17th ABRE Brazilian Packaging Award 2017, promoted by the Brazilian Packaging Association (ABRE). The highlight was in the MPES (Micro and Small Companies) Packaging category with the can from the company Maria Sem Vergonha, known as Jardim na Lata.

The creation of this Pocket Garden packaging brings creativity in the labels and diversity in the layouts.

The challenge of this creation was to develop a practical and creative package to store seeds, vegetable soil, pebbles, as well as a gardening manual that encourages the experience in gardening and even facilitates the cultivation of flowers, vegetables and spices in the most diverse spaces, such as example, windows, balconies, desks, amongst others. According to the director of Maria Sem Vergonha, Carlos Pinho, “winning the ABRE Award was a great recognition and endorsement that the company is on the right path”.

Pinho explains that each can contains 650g of earth treated with mushrooms and vegetable compost, in addition to approximately 180g of pebbles. Pesticide-free seeds with a high fertilization rate are used, and the lid of the can can be used as a base to prevent standing water. Cans were created with the following seeds: Cherry Tomato, Baby Carrot, Chili Pepper, Daisy, Basil, Oregano, Dwarf Sunflower, Rosemary, Pansy, Lucky Clover, Maravilha, CatNip, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Mint and Egg Foot. Jardim na Lata cans are sold on the Internet and at various physical sales points (see www.mariasemvergonhaeco.com.br).

ABRE is completing 50 years and, during 2017, many actions are being carried out in favor of the celebration. The ABRE Brazilian Packaging Award of this 17th edition was one of the Association's main anniversary events and the present couldn't be better: it broke records for attendance at the ceremony (around 500 people were registered), for votes in the Popular Vote category, and in registrations for the competition. It was the biggest success of recent years with the presence of representatives from the entire production chain of the sector gathered around a common idea: the appreciation of Brazilian packaging.

The ABRE Award, through its categories – gold, silver and bronze, rewards innovation, technology, design, sustainability and all attributes that can build answers for a new world and accompany all advances and improvements in society. It is held annually, since 2001, and the technical jury is selected amongst the most respected and renowned professionals and entities on the national scene. The winners will be able to participate in the WorldStar, a world award for the sector given by the WPO (World Packaging Organization).
