By adopting a plastic handle and a differentiated design, the new Galão NewPlus brings to the market an efficient response that benefits the architectural paint sector.

The classification of the best packaging cases results from the evaluation of the 7 specialists gathered at the Centro Universitário Senac SP – Oficina de Design Industrial Laboratory. In this annual award promoted by the technical magazine PackagingMarca, packages are evaluated according to the criteria of innovation, technology and economic, marketing and environmental impacts. The festive event was held on 11/05/2015 in São Paulo.

The advantage brought by the anatomical plastic handle of the NewPlus gallon is that it takes up less space in transport, storage and on the shelf of the paint retailer, as it does not have a metal “ear”. By preventing friction during transport, the plastic handle also prevents possible damage to the lithograph on the package. In other words, the new concept brings benefits to the entire supply and logistics chain of the paint coating.

From the point of view of sustainability, the NewPlus Gallon is a package that requires less raw material in manufacturing: the gallon uses 3% less steel sheet (tinplate) in the body of the can, and 11% less metal sheet at the bottom, due to to the reduction of the diameter from 165mm to 157mm. As it is an expanded can, its lower part has a smaller diameter (157 mm) than the lid and ring area, a characteristic that facilitates stacking in storage and in specialized stores.

The packaging was launched with the company Basf, owner of the Suvinil and Glasurit brands.
